The official launch of Serendib Charitable Trust was a great success with over 150 attendees at the Blackfriars meet and greet event including the current chair of HelpAge International, Tilak de Zoysa. This was an opportunity to introduce the committee, outline the charity objectives and present our first project: Nuffield School for the deaf and blind. With such great support and interest, we are confident that Nuffield is just the start of the great work to come and we encourage those who wish to contribute to get in contact with us. News of the charity has travelled fast across the globe and one generous donor living in Sydney has been busy fundraising for the Serendib Trust. She kindly invited guests for a delicious home cooked dinner with a twist: pay as you go for food, cutlery and for the use of furniture, all in the name of charity. The event was so popular that separate sittings were during the day and a staggering £2,250.00 was raised.
Our first UK fundraiser was held at the restaurant Dans Le Noir on November 1st and raised over £9,000. The auction held at the beginning of the night raised a staggering £6,950 – the highest selling item being a Polo lesson at Hurtwood Park Polo Country Club. Other items included a cricket ball signed by Muttiah Muralitharan – a record breaking Sri Lankan cricketer, and a signed photograph of father and son, George and Ben Cohen. The dinner itself was an exhilarating experience and was enjoyed by all who attended. Please see our Flickr page for pictures.
We’ve held two Silent Disco events so far (July 2012 and July 2013) both of which were immensely fun and successful! Over 200 people attended the Time Out featured events and we raised over £4,000 in total. If you would like to view pictures, please visit our facebook page
In April 2014, Serendib Charitable Trust held our first fundraising ball at the Millennium Mayfair Hotel. Our masquerade themed night was a huge success raising £35,000 towards our target. We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the event as well as the individuals who helped us make the night as exceptional as it was – we hope you had as much fun as we did!
